Mintel, a market research firm based in London, put together a report which found that the chocolate industry is continuing to grow with each passing year. Check out these fast chocolate facts:
- Between 2009 and 2014, chocolate sales in the United States grew by 24 percent, with chocolate confectionery sales reaching an astounding height of $21 billion.
- Not only are sales growing, but the presence of new chocolate creations is also on the rise. Between 2013 and 2014, chocolate innovation grew by 18 percent. This means that a wide variety of new products are popping up for consumers like you to enjoy.
- Americans continue to enjoy chocolate on a regular basis. Numbers show that 85 percent of consumers in America purchase chocolate in some form every year. The study also showed that 53 percent of Americans consume chocolate every week.
- The U.S. chocolate market is slated to grow to sales of $25 billion by 2019.
Chocolate around the Globe
In America, chocolate innovation doesn’t quite reach the levels that it does in other parts of the world. Americans have their favorite chocolate treats and generally like to stick to them; in other countries, there’s more room for growth. European countries accounted for 51 percent of new product launches, while North American countries accounted for only 12 percent of new chocolate products. Though the U.S. chocolate market is certainly growing slowly but surely, in some Asian countries the growth is expected to be even more significant, simply because the market isn’t as established as it is in places like Europe and the United States.
