It Improves Texture

There’s nothing better than a smooth, creamy dessert! Sometimes our enjoyment of a dessert can be made or broken by the dessert’s texture. If you’re a fan of desserts with smooth textures, you’ll be pleased to find that you can use chocolate to make them. Adding chocolate, especially chocolate with a high fat content, will make your dessert even more sweet and smooth.

It’s also important to note that using chocolate rather than cocoa powder can change a dessert’s texture too. When you’re making brownies, add chocolate for a fudge-like texture or cocoa powder for a chewier one. For brownies that have an especially fudgy texture, add chocolate and butter when you’re making them.

It’s A Flour Substitute

The amount of moisture in a cake can vary wildly, depending on which ingredients are used to make it. Dry ingredients like cocoa powder and flour work to absorb the moisture from wet ingredients like butter, milk, and eggs. It’s a great idea to add cocoa powder to your cakes because of the flavor it provides, but make sure that when you’re doing so that you account for the proportion of your other ingredients. Too much cocoa powder or flour can lead to a dry cake.

If you’re planning to use a combination of flour and cocoa powder, make sure the amount that you add doesn’t exceed the amount of flour the recipe requires. For example, if you find a recipe that calls for 4 cups of flour, add you want to use cocoa powder and flour, use 2 cups of each.
