Wockenfuss Candies has successfully worked its way into the hearts of sweet-toothed Baltimoreans and Marylanders for nearly a century: since 1915, the specialty shop – which has expanded to include eight locations – has been a family-run business with a bent for making delicious treats.
From gourmet truffles to gummi candies, nuts, lollipops, and fudge, Wockenfuss has a wider array than Willy Wonka himself, but our bestselling delectables are nonpareils: chocolate confections coated with crystallized balls of sugar. They’re hard to resist, as has been proven at our latest location opening on Harford Road. The 24,000 square foot retail and manufacturing center is also home to an unexpected business: a contract postal unit. Customers come in to deliver and mail their letters and packages and try to walk out without packing away too many candies.
Though an unexpected combination, the pairing seems appropriate, candies and Post both having a timeless air about them, both preserving tradition in some way. At Wockenfuss Candies, we’ve been producing sweets for 97 years, through five generations of family – beginning with Herman Charles Wockenfuss, who opened the first store after learning to make candy following his immigration to America from West Prussia, Germany.
